21A – Reading Reflection No. 2
Book:
The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users, Guy Kawasaki
1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The general theme of the book/argument of the book was giving tips and tools that can be used to maximize awareness of your brand through social media. It also covers things that should be done to yield positive results and which things to do not, so there are no undesired results to your brand's image caused by poor social media marketing.
2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
The main point of this course is for us to explore (as close as possible) what would it be like if we were to start our own business. All of these assignments which we do based in one business idea, shows us all different perspectives we need to observe and analyse in order to make an informed decision whether our business idea is viable or not.
I believe the book complements everything we have learned in this course by showing us the most effective ways in which a successful marketing campaign can help our brand image.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would create an assignments where students would have to write a small social media marketing plan for their business for the first year. The plan would have to show how this marketing strategy would work and the milestones/deadlines to be achieve in this year.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
For me the 'aha' moment was the different kinds of social media. We usually think the main ones, such as: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Tumblr. However, there are a lot more social media websites out there.

Hi Arthur,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post. I almost picked this book too. I do all of my work remotely and social media is a big factor in how I advertise. There is so much out there now a days that it's hard to decide which apps to go with. I think if you can afford it; it's smart to have someone with more in depth experience operate your social media. It's easy to get caught up in it and before you know it, half the day is gone.
Hi Arthur,
ReplyDeleteAs social media is proving to be the next big thing in the business world I think it would be important for all students to read this book. I think having students write their own social media plan would be extremely useful as all business have one. As technology improves it is important to keep up so I think learning all about social media now will help all business students in the future.
