3A – Your Entrepreneurship Story

One thing my dad has always thought me was to always think with a entrepreneur mindset, to never settle by simply working for someone else.

I remember a time when I was around 10 years old and my father used to work by creating events to advertise politicians in our city. Something happened and he lost a contract he had been counting on. He then decided he needed to do something so compensate that contract that was lost.

He then had an idea of making a few customized items to sell to businesses, we purchased the necessary parts and starting making them. Amount the items that we sold the most was a wall clock. We would purchase the glass from a store near our house, print the image (clock with the customer's logo on it), purchase the three pointers (hour, minute and seconds) along with the clock motor from a store in the downtown area of our city and we would make these wall clocks at home.
We did not make a fortune, but it was enough to get us through that tough time.

Following my father's teachings, even though I have a main job, I also have a consulting company where I provide consulting services for other small companies. The consulting services I provide are mainly in: Processes Optimizations and Government regulations (Federal and State) on cosmetics and over-the-counter manufacturing.

I enrolled for this class as entrepreneurship and business is literally a passion in my life, it something I simply love and I can't get enough of it. While most students might want to take a break from studying between college semesters, all I wanted to do this last break (between Summer and Fall) was to take Lynda courses on "How to Become a Six Sigma Black Belt" and read business books.

I have had multiple business ideas on all kinds of fields and besides my consulting company I also have a cosmetics brand, however that has not grown as fast as I would like.

I hope that through this class I will be able to learn to think more analytically towards the process of entrepreneurship and how I can apply that to the business ideas I have.

  1. I can really relate to your entrepreneurship story because I know what it is like to grow up with a parent who runs their own business. By watching them first hand you are able to really understand the hard work and dedication it takes to run a successful business. I also like to expand my knowledge in my free time and love to read articles about many business related topics.

  2. Hi Arthur,
I am very impressed with your story! There is someone within our families who pushes us to be better without they tell us. We always look to have a role model. As your father did, you will never give up your goals. I am sure you will be a great entrepreneur. Even, among the adversity, your father did not fall, instead, he made himself stronger than ever. And you are following his steps. Great story!

  3. Hi Arthur,
I enjoyed reading your story. It is clear that entrepreneurship runs through your veins and that you will be a successful entrepreneur because of your passion. My favorite part of your story is that your father seems to be your inspiration and mine is as well. It is crazy how the way we are raised can really set the tone for our aspirations. Your passion and drive is inspiring.
